FOM Lumber

The FOM Lumber Ceiling System from Barbican is an easy to specify, fully integrated, area or whole-room solution incorporating lighting and acoustic baffles in predefined configurations. Simply identify overall length and width for the system to cover, as well as options for baffle height, baffle spacing, wood print or acoustic color, and lumen output, and the specification is complete.

Barbican uses the FOM Cube in a unique orientation – at the top and running perpendicular to the baffles. The omnidirectional distribution from the FOM Cube helps to evenly illuminate the baffles and the space below without glare. This approach eliminates the cave effect, increases perceived ceiling height, and accentuates the wood print details in the acoustic PET baffles as a feature in the space. The Lumber AR baffles offer multiple wood grain patterns, as well as stain options to obtain exactly the look desired, and our true-to-life printing – including realistic end grain detail gives a space the look of wood with increased acoustic absorption (with NRC values up to 0.9 for the system) and the same equivalent surface area coverage of a standard ACT grid system.

In addition to increased acoustic performance, introducing the true-to-life digital wood grains into a built environment adds a direct biophilic design element to help remind inhabitants of nature, which has been shown to reduce stress levels. Lumber AR baffles are constructed to match dimensional sizes of actual lumber. For example, as with lumber used for building framing, our 2x8 Lumber AR baffle will measure actual size 1 ½” x 7 ¼”. The Lumber AR system can also be used in forms other than suspended baffles. Consider the Lumber AR system anywhere exposed wood may be considered for aesthetic purposes, as the Lumber AR system can be constructed as you would with normal lumber in various non-structural configurations (such as an indoor pergola). Mounting hardware available from Barbican. See dimensional drawings or consult Barbican for more information.

Colour temperature is a description of the warmth or coolness of a light source. It is a characteristic of visible light and is stated in units of absolute temperature, known as Kelvin (K).
A colour rendering index (CRI) is a quantitative measure of the ability of a light source to reveal the colours of various objects faithfully in comparison with an ideal or natural light source.
